The first gameplay trailer for Middle-Earth: Shadow of War has been released, showcasing an assault on a fortress by the main character Talion and his army. The trailer showcased the improved Nemesis system, a mechanic which formed the backbone of the first game in the series, Shadow of Mordor. The Nemesis system can create new, unique, storylines where orcs can develop loyalties and friendships with Talion, betray him, and start rivalries.
New to the game are fortresses where Talion takes on an overlord and his war chiefs. Capturing these fortresses results in conquering the region, which then allows you to upgrade the fortress to increase the power of your army. Conquering also rewards you with new followers, resources, experience points, and loot. In addition, you'll be able to equip pieces of armor to Talion in an expanded RPG system.
Like in the previous game, you’ll have a number of options to complete your missions. You can sneak with stealth, or go in swinging your sword. The environment can also help with your attack, Talion using a campfire to his advantage at one point in the trailer.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is set to release on 08/22/17 in North America, and 08/25/17 in Europe, on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
