Whoops, didn't mean to press the "Pylons of Death" button. Damn touch screens. Whoops, didn't mean to press the "Pylons of Death" button. Damn touch screens.

Still waiting to hear confirmation on Segways.

A plane glides through the air, its engines humming a familiar tune that eventually becomes white noise to the passengers. Watch Dogs protagonist Aiden Pearce sits bored while the other rabble on the flight continues acting in what only an idiot would describe as civil manner. A toddler screams while the parent ignores it, a man complains about the flight’s drink prices, and an all-powerful computer hacker only has a phone to entertain himself on a three-hour flight. Attempting to amuse himself, Aiden scrolls through his Pandora’s Box of a cell phone. With a tinge of comedic irony, when Aiden clicks a game app on his phone, he mistakenly seals his own fate and triggers the hacking device within his phone. During his last moments Aiden wonders why he left the “Deus Ex Machina” button next to Angry Birds. And that, boys and girls, is why you should never fly whilst carrying your “hack everything” device.

In an interview with the Examiner, a Watch Dogs senior producer gave a short explanation as to why airplanes will not be available in the game. “Players will not be able to fly aircrafts in Watch Dogs. We did not feel it was core to the experience we wanted to create. Players will be able to drive any wheeled vehicles, from trucks to motorcycles, or boats. This will allow them to explore the city proper, the rivers, the lake, and even beyond the limits of Chicago,” Dominic Guay said. And by beyond the limits of Chicago, most of gamers can infer that means maybe 300-400 feet outside the city limits before hitting the inevitable invisible wall, which no government in any game seems to recognize is there. Aliens? Aliens.

It is disappointing that planes will not be among gamer's hacking arsenal in Watch Dogs, yet I doubt we have seen everything that will be available to us for hacking upon launch. Turning something other than a plane into an out-of-control death machine will hardly have to same level of enjoyment, unless it's an ice cream truck. Please, please let me send enemies to meet their pagan gods via a truck that plays a jaunty tune while their entrails are strewn across the sidewalk.

Watch Dogs is set to release on November 19, 2013 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Wii U and PC.
